The Credit Union was operated out of one of the offices in the Town Hall on Park Street. When the Town Hall was moved to 26 Central Street the Credit Union was given office space on the second floor.
By the end of the first year the Credit Union had 316 members, with a total of $33,350.00 in share balances and loans outstanding of $33,212.00. In July 1968 the field of membership was changed to include employees of the Massachusetts Welfare Department who worked in West Springfield and employees of the West Springfield Post office.
In 2002 the Board of Directors realized that the Credit Union had outgrown the space in the Town Hall. After much discussion it was decided that we should look into getting our own building. The building at 58 Union Street was purchased in the summer of 2002. The building was completly renovated. The West Springfield Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union moved into their current office in January 2003.
In October 2003 the Credit Union applied to the National Credit Union Administration for a change to their existing charter. The request was granted to change to a community charter. The field of membership was changed to persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in and businesses and other legal entities located in the Town of West Springfield. Immediate family members are also included in the field of membership. A request was also granted to change the name of the credit union from West Springfield Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union to the current name of West Springfield Federal Credit Union.
